2020 Evergreen State Fair Cancelation FAQ

Updated 5/4/2020

Why was the 2020 Evergreen State Fair canceled?

  • · The 2020 Evergreen State Fair is canceled due to the ongoing health restrictions in place to protect the public from the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • · This decision was based on advice from the Snohomish Health District, Snohomish County officials and Snohomish County Evergreen State Fair leaders.
  • · With up to 55,000 attendees per day, this is a huge event and maintaining social distancing would be very difficult, if not impossible.
  • · We don’t know when large events will be allowed again, and we needed to make this decision now, since the Fair is planned months ahead of time and our sponsors, vendors, and partners deserve timely notice.
  • · We have a responsibility to provide a safe experience for our fairgoers, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, entertainers, employees, animals and the entire community.
  • · Cancelling the Fair and many of the year-round events hosted at the Fair Park is having a significant economic impact on our community, the Evergreen State Fair Park, Snohomish County, fair participants and local businesses. As well as an emotional impact – the "fair family" as we call it is a strong community and this is tough news for all of us. But if we save one life because of this decision, it is worth it. · The financial blow of event cancellations during the ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ order has placed a burden on the Fair Park to cover operating costs. Being responsible stewards of taxpayers’ money, the fair leadership choose not to place financial strain on the county to subsidize the annual event during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What happens if COVID-19 restrictions are lifted by the State – will the Evergreen State Fair reopen?

Much of the planning for the Evergreen State Fair takes place year-round and months ahead of the fair opening. We will not be able to create the quality Fair that we pride ourselves on in such a quick turnaround if the restrictions are lifted in a few months. We will continue to work with Snohomish Health District and Snohomish County officials to assess if events are possible in the future. We are developing ideas to be creative with exhibits, competitions and entertainment to keep our cherished fair family and community connected. This is a challenge for the community, but we are ready to find ways to celebrate our theme "Wonder and Wander" in new and innovative ways. If you have ideas or would like to give input you may contact us via the website (Contact Us) or by email at fair.marketing@snoco.org. Meanwhile please continue to follow us on social media, sign up for our e-newsletter or visit our website for continued updates.

Does this mean that all events for the rest of the year are canceled?

While the Evergreen State Fair that we all know and love will not be happening this year, we are developing ways to keep our community connected to the Fair. We will continue to partner with the Snohomish Health District and Snohomish County leaders to assess how we can offer experiences and connect the fair community once it is safe to do so. Public health and safety have always been, and will always be, our top priority.  If you have ideas or would like to give input you may contact us via the website (Contact Us) or by email at fair.marketing@snoco.org. Meanwhile please continue to follow us on social media, sign up for our e-newsletter or visit our website for continued updates.
